India Nepal Talks Advance Key Hydropower Projects
New Delhi: Senior officials visited the Project Headquarters in Kathmandu and held high level discussions to accelerate the Phukot Karnali Hydropower Project. The Director Personnel met with Hiramman Yaiba, Chief Executive Officer of Vidhyut Utpadan Company Limited VUCL Nepal, to initiate the joint venture agreement process at the earliest.
Both sides also agreed to jointly complete the necessary procedures to obtain the certified judicial order of the Supreme Court of Nepal concerning the extension of the Phukot Karnali Memorandum of Understanding.
Further discussions were held at the Indian Embassy in Nepal with Deputy Chief of Mission Dr Rakesh Pandey on the Phukot Karnali and West Seti Hydropower Projects. A major focus was placed on securing NPR 4000 crore Viability Gap Funding for the West Seti Project to strengthen its financial feasibility.
The meetings also reviewed the joint venture framework, legal processes, MoU compliance, judicial approvals and a time bound plan for project execution.
