AAI's Kolhapur Airport to soon unfurl its wings

Kolhapur: Airport Authority of India’s Kolhapur Airport will soon unfurl its wings of development which includes the construction of a New Terminal Building, extension of the Runway and development of a New Apron and Parking Bay at a visionary investment of Rs 256 Crores.

The Kolhapur Airport has been identified for RCS operations under the UDAN scheme and will soon radiate the essence of progress and connectivity.
Post completion, the Terminal Building constructed over 3900 sqm will be capable enough to serve 300 passengers during the busiest operational hours.
Read Also : GAIL Excels in Cost Management, Wins Double Honors at National Awards 2025The present Kolhapur Airport began operations in the year 1987 and was leased by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on 16 April 1997.
The lease expired in February 2012 and the MIDC requested the state government in May 2012 to be relieved of the responsibility of managing the airport. The Maharashtra Government then handed over the airport to the AAI in August 2013.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has acquired 223 hectares of adjoining land in five villages at the cost of Rs 80 crore for this purpose. The new terminal is under construction since 2019 and is expected to be completed by October 2023.
