The PM E-Drive scheme, which has a financial investment of Rs 2,000 crore, aims to support the installation of about 72,000 public charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) across the country.

These stations will be strategically placed along 50 national highway corridors and in high-traffic locations such as metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways, according to the official release.

The PM e-Drive initiative, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aims to deploy 14,028 electric buses with a total financial outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years from April 2024 to March 2026. The scheme represents one of the world’s largest national efforts to electrify public transport at scale. The Ministry of Heavy Industries remains committed to timely delivery, operational readiness, and strategic partnerships with all participating states.
