Coal India Director (Technical) Conducts Review Visit to Asia's Largest Coal Mine, Gevra
Shri Achyut Ghatak, Director (Technical) of Coal India Limited, recently conducted a comprehensive review visit to the Gevra Mine, operated by the company's subsidiary, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL).
The visit focused on assessing operational efficiency and identifying avenues to accelerate production at this flagship asset. During the review, Shri Ghatak examined critical operational parameters, including coal production and dispatch figures. He engaged with the mine's management and technical teams, providing strategic inputs aimed at expediting output and enhancing overall productivity.
A key part of the inspection involved an on-ground assessment of the mine's robust infrastructure. Shri Ghatak personally inspected the high-capacity belt transportation system and the integrated Coal Handling Plant (CHP), which are pivotal for the efficient movement and processing of coal.
Significance of Gevra Mine
The Gevra Mine holds the distinction of being the second-largest coal mine in the world and the largest in Asia. It is a cornerstone of India's domestic coal production. Demonstrating its massive scale, the mine has already produced an impressive 38 million tonnes of coal in the current financial year (2025-26), underscoring its critical role in meeting the nation's energy demands.
The visit underscores Coal India's continued focus on operational excellence and leveraging its largest assets to ensure energy security through sustained and enhanced coal production.
