Coal India Organised Seminar on 'Contract Management – Legal Aspects and Contract Closure'

A seminar on the theme “Contract Management – Legal Aspects and Contract Closure” was organized at Coal India's Corporate Office in Kolkata.

Addressing the seminar, our Chairman, Shri P.M. Prasad, highlighted Coal India’s leadership in GeM procurement, showcasing how Coal India is at the forefront of government procurement initiatives. He also pointed out that Coal India manages a significant volume of procurement through the e-procurement portal. He emphasized that discussions, consultations, and the avoidance of delays are critical to the successful implementation and completion of contracts and further stressed that contract management is a continuous learning process, where insights can be gained from professionals at all levels.

Our Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak, while addressing the seminar, emphasized that the incorporation of clear guidelines and their proper implementation can significantly reduce legal disputes in contract management. He further emphasized that the timely closure of contracts is a critical element of the government’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ initiative, which calls for focused monitoring and continuous improvement.

Our CVO, Shri Brajesh Kumar Tripathy, remarked that the topic is highly relevant in the contemporary context. He stated that training by seasoned professors from prestigious institutes like IIM Calcutta will undoubtedly equip the participants with the cutting-edge knowledge on the subject.

The session was conducted by Professor R. Rajesh Babu and Professor Megha Sharma from IIM Calcutta. The seminar was also attended virtually by officials handling contracts across our subsidiary companies.
