GAIL Begins PNG Supply to Historic Benares Club in Varanasi Under CGD Project
GAIL (India) Limited has successfully commenced the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to the historic Benares Club in Varanasi, under its City Gas Distribution (CGD) project.
The initiative strengthens GAIL’s commitment to providing clean, safe, and affordable energy solutions for commercial and institutional users.
Formal Inauguration of PNG Supply
The PNG connection was formally inaugurated by Sushil Kumar, General Manager & OIC, GAIL CGD Varanasi.
The event was attended by senior officials from GAIL, including representatives from project, finance, and operations divisions, along with the management team of Benares Club.
Historic Institution Embraces Clean Energy
Established in 1848 and registered in 1898, Benares Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in Varanasi, with a legacy spanning over 150 years.
Previously, the club consumed around 60 LPG cylinders per month. With the shift to PNG, it will now benefit from:
- Continuous and uninterrupted gas supply
- Improved operational safety
- Reduced fuel costs
- Cleaner and environmentally friendly energy usage
Project Completed in Record Time
The CGD connection was completed in just seven days, despite operational challenges. Pipeline laying in densely populated and high-traffic areas required careful planning, traffic coordination, and strict safety compliance.
The swift execution highlights GAIL’s technical capability, strong coordination, and customer-focused approach.
Expanding Clean Energy Access
The inclusion of a heritage institution like Benares Club into the PNG network marks another step in GAIL’s efforts to expand clean fuel access for commercial and institutional consumers, contributing to a greener and more sustainable Varanasi.
