Hindustan Copper Hit with ₹929 Crore Compensation Demand
New Delhi, February 13, 2026: Hindustan Copper Limited (NSE: HINDCOPPER, BSE: 513599) has received a demand notice for Rs. 929.40 crore from the District Mining Officer (DMO), East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur, under the Department of Mines & Geology, Government of Jharkhand.
The notice alleges that Hindustan Copper allegedly mined from the Surda mine without valid statutory clearances or in excess of permissible limits during FY 2000-01 to FY 2016-17, invoking liability under Section 21(5) of the Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957, in line with the Common Cause judgment of the Supreme Court of India.
The company has denied the allegations and is pursuing appropriate legal remedies. Hindustan Copper noted that the financial or operational impact will depend on the outcome of the final order.
