NHPC Achieves Key Milestone at Subansiri Lower Project with Successful Stator Installation in Unit 6
NHPC Limited has achieved a significant construction milestone at its flagship 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project with the successful lowering of a 395 metric tonne generator stator for Unit #6.
The critical installation marks major advancement in the electro-mechanical works of one of India’s largest hydropower projects.
Precision Engineering for Unit 6 Installation
The complex operation was executed on April 23, 2026, through meticulous planning and coordination among engineering teams and stakeholders. The successful placement of the generator stator is a key step toward the assembly and commissioning of Unit #6.
The Subansiri Lower Project is being developed with 8 units of 250 MW each, totaling a planned capacity of 2000 MW.
Leadership Congratulates Project Team
On the occasion, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta congratulated the project team led by Executive Director and Head of Project Rajendra Prasad, along with executing agency GE Vernova.
He praised the team’s engineering excellence and coordination in achieving this complex milestone.
Step Toward 1500 MW Commissioning
With this development, the project is now moving closer to commissioning 1500 MW capacity across six units, marking steady progress toward full operationalization of the hydropower station.
The Subansiri Lower Project is considered a strategically important infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity and supporting long-term grid stability.
