NHPC Signs 40-Year PPA with TSECL for 1720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project

Agartala, July 10, 2026: NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company, has signed a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) for the supply of power from its upcoming 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

The PPA was signed today in Agartala and provides for the supply of power to Tripura for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project. This agreement strengthens the reliable supply of clean and sustainable hydroelectric power to the state of Tripura.

Key Highlights of the PPA:

• Project: 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project, Arunachal Pradesh

• Duration: 40 years from COD

• Purpose: Procurement of clean hydroelectric power for Tripura

Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC Limited, expressed his views on the development:

The PPA was signed by Shri Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and Ms. Sujata Sarkar, Deputy General Manager (Commercial), TSECL. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of senior officials, including:

• Shri Abhisek Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Power, Government of Tripura

• Shri Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL

• Other senior officials from both organizations

The agreement was signed during the “Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026” organized by the Government of Tripura.

The 1,720 MW Kamala HEP is one of the major upcoming hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh. Once operational, it will significantly contribute to India’s renewable energy capacity and provide clean power to the Northeastern states.
