NLC India Limited Starts Mining Operations at Pachwara South Coal Block
Chennai– NLC India Limited, a ‘Navratna’ government-owned enterprise, has announced the commencement of mining operations at the Pachwara South Coal Block in Dumka District, Jharkhand.
The coal block, with an extractable reserve of 264.84 million tonnes, was allotted to Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL) – a joint venture of NLC India Limited (51%) and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (49%) – to supply fuel for the upcoming 3 X 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant in Uttar Pradesh.
This coal block, previously unexplored, has been developed through detailed drilling and is expected to produce 9 million tonnes of coal per year, with an average grade of G10.
The start of mining operations marks a significant milestone in ensuring a steady coal supply for the Ghatampur plant, supporting India’s energy growth and boosting local employment.
NLC India Limited confirmed the first mining operations began on 19th December 2025.
