NPCIL Says No Nuclear Safety Data Leaked in Kudankulam Project, Issues Clarification

New Delhi, July 16: The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has issued a clarification after reports surfaced claiming that engineering drawings related to the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) Units 3 & 4 were leaked following an alleged cyber breach at Reliance Infrastructure Ltd.

NPCIL said the reports have been misinterpreted and stressed that no nuclear safety or nuclear security-related information has been compromised.

According to the public sector nuclear power company, the information reportedly available in the public domain is limited to the Balance of Plant (BoP) Common Services package, which includes conventional facilities such as utilities and support infrastructure commonly used in thermal power plants and other industrial projects.

What NPCIL Said

NPCIL explained that the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Common Services-BoP package was awarded to Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. through a public tender in 2018.

As part of the bidding process, NPCIL had shared indicative drawings and technical specifications with all eligible bidders. Based on these documents, Reliance Infrastructure prepared detailed engineering drawings in consultation with equipment manufacturers, which were later reviewed and approved by NPCIL.

The corporation clarified that these drawings relate only to conventional infrastructure and are not connected to reactor systems, nuclear operations, safety mechanisms or security infrastructure.
