ONGC Completes Installation of Mega Structures at KG-98/2 Eastern Offshore Block

New Delhi: State-run energy major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has successfully completed the installation of all mega offshore structures and modules at its KG-98/2 development located in the Eastern Offshore region.

The milestone marks a significant step forward in ONGC’s efforts to enhance domestic hydrocarbon production from the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin, one of India’s most strategically important offshore energy regions.

Major Engineering Milestone

The KG-98/2 project involves complex offshore infrastructure, including large production platforms and associated modules designed to support drilling, processing, and evacuation of oil and gas. The successful installation of these mega structures reflects coordinated execution across marine logistics, heavy-lift operations, and offshore engineering.

With structural installation now complete, the project moves closer to the next phase of commissioning and operational readiness.

Strategic Importance of KG-98/2

The KG-98/2 block is a key part of ONGC’s broader strategy to increase output from deepwater and ultra-deepwater assets in India’s eastern offshore. The development is expected to contribute meaningfully to domestic crude oil and natural gas production, strengthening India’s energy security and reducing import dependence.

The Eastern Offshore basin has emerged as a critical hydrocarbon province, and timely execution of infrastructure projects such as KG-98/2 plays a vital role in unlocking its production potential.
