New Delhi, January 2026: India’s upstream energy strategy is entering a more precise and data driven phase, with ONGC outlining its technology led exploration roadmap at India Energy Week 2026.
Opening the Technical Conference session on Exploration, Appraisal and De risking Strategy at the Future Energy Mix Stage, ONGC Director Technology and Field Services Vikram S emphasised the need to balance the urgency of new hydrocarbon discoveries with scientific rigour and certainty. His address set the tone for a focused discussion on how advanced technologies are reshaping exploration and production outcomes.
The session, co chaired with bp, featured six expert presentations covering the entire upstream value chain. Key themes included advanced subsurface imaging, frontier basin exploration, machine learning based de risking models, biogeochemical indicators, deepwater appraisal techniques, and development strategies that integrate carbon capture and storage considerations.
Discussions highlighted how integration of seismic data, controlled source electromagnetic methods, and digital analytics is improving exploration confidence across complex terrains. Case studies ranging from deepwater Krishna Godavari basins to the Andaman frontier demonstrated how precision driven approaches are enhancing efficiency and resilience in hydrocarbon development.
The dialogue reflected ONGC’s focus on collaboration, technology adoption, and carbon conscious planning as India advances its hydrocarbon strategy alongside energy transition goals. The session reinforced the role of data, innovation, and cross industry partnerships in shaping the next phase of India’s upstream energy journey.
