SAIL supplies 16,000 tonnes steel for the Chenab Bridge
India's largest government-owned steel producer, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has supplied 16,000 tonnes of steel for the construction of the world's tallest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir.

New Delhi: India's largest government-owned steel producer, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has supplied 16,000 tonnes of steel for the construction of the world's tallest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir. The Bhilai Steel Plant contributed around 12,000 tonnes.
PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the world's highest railway bridge over Chenab River and India's first cable-stayed arch bridge. According to the Bhilai Steel Plant official stated that Bhilai Steel Plant along with the other steel plants of SAIL has supplied 16,000 tonnes of steel for the construction of the bridge which includes plates, TMT bars, and structural steel.
Chenab Bridge is 1.3-kilometre-long and stands 35 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The bridge is supposed to counter high wind speeds of up to 266 kmph and earthquake forces of the highest intensity.

The steel plant official stated that they have supplied 16,000 tonnes of steel, including 6,690 tonnes of TMT products, 1,793 tonnes of structural steel, and 7,511 tonnes of steel plates, hot strip mill products including plates for the construction of the railway bridge in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Bhilai Steel Plant has supplied 12,432 tonnes of steel, including 5,922 tonnes of TMT steel, 6,454 tonnes of plates and 56 tonnes of structural steel. Meanwhile, remaining volume of the steel has been supplied by SAIL's IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur, Durgapur Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant, and Bokaro Steel Ltd.
