New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) organised a commemorative programme at its headquarters on April 28, 2026, to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026, highlighting the importance of creating a healthy psychosocial work environment. This year’s theme, “Let’s ensure a healthy psychosocial work environment,” underscored the organisation’s commitment to employee well-being alongside operational safety.

The event began with the hoisting of the safety flag by Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan in the presence of senior leadership, including Director (Technical Operations) N Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Human Resources) Biranchi Das, Director (Finance) D Sunil Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain, Director (Technical – Planning & Projects) Ramesh Chandra Mahapatra, along with department heads, union representatives and employees. Dignitaries also paid floral tribute at the workers’ memorial statue in the headquarters complex.

Addressing the gathering, Harish Duhan emphasised that workplace safety must encompass both physical and mental well-being. He noted that safety is not merely a process but an integral part of organisational culture, stressing the need to create a healthy work environment where employees feel secure and supported. He encouraged regular physical exercise and highlighted the importance of psychosocial well-being as a foundation for sustainable productivity and organisational excellence.

During the programme, employees took a safety pledge led by the CMD, reaffirming their commitment to safe work practices. A message from the Chairman of Coal India Limited was also read out by General Manager (Safety/Rescue) Prakash Rai, emphasising the need for continuous improvement and implementation of safety and health measures across operations.
