WCL organised one day workshop on 'Safe and Smart Mining Practices'
With the objective of promoting technical dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration between industry and academia, WCL, Department of Mining Engineering, VNIT Nagpur and Directorate General of Mine Safety jointly organized a one-day workshop on "Safe and Smart Mining Practices" on 26th July 2025. In the program, senior officials and experts from WCL, VNIT and DGMS together brainstormed on the major technical and geotechnical challenges related to the mining sector.
The workshop organized sessions on important topics such as slope design, monitoring and long-term geotechnical safety of open-cast mines, "Stability of benches and dump slopes" and "Paste-filling technique with special focus on ground control" related to the role of durable support systems and paste-filling technique in maintaining stability in underground mining. During this, a special presentation was also given on satellite-based slope monitoring.

WCL Chairman cum Managing Director Shri Jai Prakash Dwivedi, Deputy Director General of Directorate General of Mine Safety, Western Region Shri Ramavtar Meena, Director of VNIT, Nagpur Shri P.L. Patel shared their views in the inaugural ceremony of the workshop. WCL Director Technical (Operations) Shri Anil Kumar Singh, Director Technical (Planning & Development) Shri Anandji Prasad, Director (HR) Dr. Hemant Sharad Pandey, Director of Mine Safety, Directorate General of Mine Safety Northern Region, Ghaziabad, Nagpur Region-I Shri Altaf Hussain Ansari, Director of Mine Safety, Western Region, Nagpur Shri Aftab Ahmed, Director of Mine Safety, Nagpur Region-I, Western Region, Nagpur Shri Praful Ranjan Thakur, Director of Mine Safety, Nagpur Region-II, Western Region, Nagpur Shri Durga Shankar Salvi, Faculty Member, VNIT Nagpur Shri R.R. Yerpude, Head, Department of Mining Engineering VNIT Dr. A.K. Agarwal, Regional General Managers of all regions, Heads of Departments and concerned officers were specially present in this ceremony.
