South Central Railway Speeds Up Safety with ₹3,191 Crore Track Fencing Project
Hyderabad, January 15, 2026 — South Central Railway is witnessing rapid transformation as part of the Government of India’s continued push to modernise the rail network. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways is implementing large-scale safety and speed enhancement measures, with South Central Railway emerging as a major beneficiary.
A key initiative currently underway is the installation of track fencing across 4,429 kilometres, at an estimated investment of ₹3,191 crore. This extensive project is designed to improve passenger safety and support the operation of trains at speeds of up to 130 km per hour across high-speed corridors.
The fencing will restrict unauthorised track access, significantly reducing accidents and improving operational efficiency. The project also focuses on creating safer walkways for maintenance staff while strengthening overall railway infrastructure resilience.
Progress Update
So far, 875 kilometres of fencing have been completed across multiple divisions:
-
Secunderabad Division: 305 km
-
Vijayawada Division: 264 km
-
Guntakal Division: 268 km
-
Guntur Division: 30 km
-
Hyderabad Division: 8 km
-
Nanded Division: Work currently in progress
Railway officials note that this initiative is a major step toward making India’s railway corridors safer, faster, and more reliable, while supporting the long-term vision of high-speed and semi-high-speed train operations across the country.
