About NHIT and Its Investors
NHIT, sponsored by NHAI, has successfully raised four rounds of capital from marquee investors including CPPIB, OTPP, EPFO, NHAI, and the SBI Group. With more than 700 investors, the current market capitalization of NHIT units is approximately ₹28,000 crores, and the units are actively traded on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Strategic Role of Asset Monetization
Asset monetization is a key component of NHAI’s strategy to unlock the value of existing highway infrastructure and attract private sector participation. Through models like Toll-Operate-Transfer (ToT) and InvITs, NHAI has generated significant capital, which is being reinvested into the construction and maintenance of new highway projects.
During the current financial year, the total monetized national highway assets amount to approximately ₹28,077 crores, underscoring the effectiveness of this approach in enhancing both financial sustainability and operational efficiency.
By involving private investors, NHAI not only brings in capital but also introduces advanced technologies and best practices, improving the quality, longevity, and efficiency of India’s national highway network.
