NHAI to take step towards Reporting and Blacklisting 'Loose FASTags'
In order to facilitate the tolling operations and the strengthening the process of reporting Loose FASTags, the National Highways Authority of India Ltd (NHAI) has taken a significant initiative to further improve its policy of Toll Collecting Agencies and Concessionaires to immediately report and blacklist ‘Loose FASTags’, that are also commonly called “tag-in-hand”.
With the recent features in line which include Annual Pass System and Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling, it is not easy to differentiate the FASTag authenticity and system reliability.

Sometimes FASTags are not fixed by the people on the windscreen of the vehicle. Therefore, these practices give operational challenges like lane congestion, generation of false chargebacks, misuse in closed loop tolling system, causing overall disruption of the Electronic Toll Collection framework which leads for the unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users.

FASTag with over 98% users listed has revolutionized the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country. Loose FASTags or tag-in-hand lead to pose challenges to the efficiency and operations of Electronic Toll Collection.
Further, this step will help to make toll operations more efficient, ensuring seamless and comfortable journeys for the National Highway users.
