Project Overview:

RITES, a public sector enterprise, has been assigned the task of designing permanent holding areas at five high-traffic railway stations across the country, including New Delhi, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Anand Vihar, and Ghaziabad, with plans to expand to 60 high-density footfall stations soon.

The announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a meeting on Wednesday with the RITES team in New Delhi, led by its chairperson Rahul Mittal. The new holding areas are part of a broader effort to improve station infrastructure under the Amrit Stations redevelopment program.

One of the key features of this project is the closure of all unauthorized access points to these stations, which is expected to enhance security and streamline passenger movement. The integration of these holding areas with the Amrit Stations initiative will also provide improved facilities and a more seamless travel experience for millions of passengers.
