New Delhi: The Government of India has approved the premature repatriation of Shri Devesh Gupta, IRS (C&CE:2008), Director in the Department of Commerce, to his parent cadre to enable him to avail the benefit of promotion, according to an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The approval was granted by the competent authority following a proposal from the Department of Commerce. Shri Gupta has been directed to be relieved of his duties immediately to report back to his parent cadre, the memorandum issued by the Office of the Establishment Officer stated.
Separately, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved extensions in the temporary upgradation of several senior posts across key government departments.
As per the notification issued on January 28, 2026, the following extensions have been approved:

Extension of the upgraded post of Chairperson, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary level, presently held by Shri Rahul Singh, IAS (BH:96), up to March 25, 2027.

Extension of the upgraded post of Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Ministry of Finance, held by Shri Alok Pandey, IPoS (1994 batch), up to November 24, 2026.

Extension of the upgraded post of DS/Director to Additional Secretary level in the Department of Science & Technology, held by Shri Sunil Kumar, IFoS (PB:95), up to January 8, 2027.

Extension of the upgraded post of Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries, held by Shri Hanif Qureshi, IPS (HY:96), up to January 7, 2027.
The ACC decision has been communicated to all concerned ministries, constitutional authorities, and state governments for information and necessary action.
