A high-level meeting was held on January 27, 2026, between Indian officials and a delegation from the United States to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on hydrocarbons and geothermal energy.
The U.S. delegation was led by Kyle Haustveit, Assistant Secretary for Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy. The Indian side was represented by Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Shri Vikram Dev Dutt, along with Additional Secretaries Ms Rupinder Brar and Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha. Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal were also present during the discussions.
The deliberations focused on expanding collaboration across hydrocarbons and geothermal energy, fostering technology partnerships, and encouraging greater institutional engagement between the two countries. Both sides discussed avenues for advancing clean energy pathways while ensuring long-term energy security through sustainable and resilient energy frameworks.
