PESB Invites Applications for Chairman & Managing Director Post at AVNL

New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has invited applications for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence. The appointment will carry a pay scale of ₹2,00,000 – ₹3,70,000 (IDA).

About AVNL

Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is a wholly owned Government of India enterprise engaged in manufacturing critical defence equipment. Headquartered in Avadi, Chennai, the company operates five major production units at Avadi, Ambernath, Medak, and Jabalpur. Its key products include Main Battle Tanks, Infantry Combat Vehicles, Armoured Vehicles, Engines, Mine Protected Vehicles and Defence Transport Platforms.
As of March 31, 2025, AVNL had an authorized capital of ₹14,000 crore and a paid-up capital of ₹13,427.66 crore, with a workforce of over 10,358 employees.

 

Role & Responsibilities

The CMD will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the company and will be responsible for overall leadership, corporate performance, defence production expansion, modernization, indigenization, export promotion, R&D, and strategic business development. The CMD will coordinate closely with the Ministry of Defence, DRDO, Armed Forces Headquarters, State Governments, PSUs, and key stakeholders.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on date of advertisement – 02.01.2026):

• Minimum age: 45 years

• Internal candidates must have at least 1 year residual service

• Other candidates must have at least 3 years residual service

• Superannuation age: 60 years

 

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must be an Engineering Graduate / Chartered Accountant / Cost Accountant / Post Graduate / MBA / PGDIM from a recognized institute.

Experience Requirements:

Applicants should possess at least 5 years of cumulative senior-level experience in areas such as Finance, Production, Operations, Marketing, Project Management or Business Development in a large organization.
Experience in Defence or Heavy Engineering sector will be considered an added advantage.

Applicants must currently be working in:

• CPSEs

• Central Government Group ‘A’ services

• Armed Forces

• State PSEs (₹1500 crore+ turnover)

• Large Private Sector companies (₹1500 crore+ turnover)

Pay Scale Eligibility

Candidates must be serving in eligible pay scales ranging from ₹62,000–80,000 (IDA) up to ₹1,50,000–3,00,000 (IDA) or equivalent CDA Level 15 and above, as specified by PESB norms.

 

Tenure of Appointment

The appointment shall be for five years or until superannuation or further orders, whichever is earlier.
