To expedite the transfer of technical expertise from the Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL) to the 509 Army Base Workshop, the Indian Army and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have signed a substantial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The goal of this partnership is to increase the manufacturing of 0.5-watt sterling cryocoolers, which are a crucial part of the Indian Army's thermal imaging equipment.

In addition to strengthening the Indian Army's domestic manufacturing capabilities, this historic MoU will lessen reliance on imports.

It will result in significant cost reductions in defence production and is a significant step towards bolstering indigenous technological innovation.
