Railways announces slight fare hike from July 1 for AC and non-AC long-distance travel
The Indian Railway Ministry has declared some marginal changes in the basic fares for passenger train services with effect from July 1, 2025. The objective is to rationalize the fare structure of various categories and enhanced the financial core structure of railway operations and to keep affordable price intact for travelling passengers.
As per the new fare structure issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA), there will be no change in fares of suburban single journey tickets or season tickets, in terms of suburban or non-suburban routes. Some minor fare rationalization has been introduced for non-AC and AC classes on non-suburban trains.
A slight increase in fares has been noticed for ordinary non-AC classes, including second class and sleeper class by 0.5 paisa per kilometre.
For the second class no changes will be applied for travel up to 500 kilometres. For journeys between 501 and 1500 kilometres, fares will increase by Rs 5, while for 1501 to 2500 kilometres, the hike will be Rs 10. Meanwhile, the Passengers travelling between 2501 and 3000 kilometres will witness a Rs 15 increase.
The non-AC classes such as first class, sleeper class and second class will witness an increase of one paisa per kilometer in mail and express trains.
The AC classes which includes AC Chair Car, AC 3 Tier and third Economy, AC 2 Tier, and AC First/Executive/Anubhuti Class, will witness a rise of two paisa per km.
These fare revisions will be applicable also to premium and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, Tejas and trains with AC Vistadome and Anubhuti coaches.

Moreover, there will No change for reservation fees, superfast surcharges, or other applicable charges and GST will be levied as per the existing rules, and fare rounding off norms will be remaining unchanged.
It should be noted that any tickets purchased before this date will remain valid at the existing fare, and no fare adjustment will be made respectively.
Currently, the Indian Railways are updating their Passenger Reservation System (PRS), Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS), and manual ticketing mechanisms structure to implement the new fare structure easily.
The Zonal Railways offices have been directed by Ministry to maintain and update fare charts that are displayed at stations and that the fare revision should be reached out to the public soon to ensure hassle-free travel arrangements.
