KPI Green Energy Energises 35 MW Solar Capacity, Operational IPP Portfolio Reaches 589 MW
New Delhi, March 13, 2026:
KPI Green Energy Limited has announced the energisation of an additional 35 MWp solar capacity, pushing its total operational Independent Power Producer (IPP) capacity to 589 MWp. The development marks another milestone in the company’s rapid expansion within India’s renewable energy sector.
The company stated that with projects currently under execution, it is on track to commission an additional 1,582 MWp, which will expand its total IPP portfolio to 2.17 GWp in the coming period.
The expansion highlights KPI Green’s strategy of strengthening its asset-backed IPP model, supported by long-term power purchase agreements and its established engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capabilities.
Long-Term PPAs Strengthening Revenue Stability
According to the company, the growing IPP portfolio is backed by long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), many with tenures extending up to 25 years. These agreements provide a stable annuity-style revenue stream and reinforce the company’s focus on long-term sustainable growth in the renewable energy sector.
Such agreements ensure predictable power offtake and help renewable energy developers maintain stable cash flows while contributing to India’s clean energy targets.
Major Renewable Energy Projects Under Execution
KPI Green Energy has been actively expanding its renewable energy footprint through several large-scale solar and hybrid projects across India.
Khavda Solar IPP Project
One of the key projects in the company’s portfolio is the 200 MW (240 MWp) solar IPP project at Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat. The project became operational in January 2026 and is among the early projects commissioned within the 1.8 GW solar park developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited.
Electricity generated from this project is supplied under a long-term agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.
Hybrid Renewable Energy Project
KPI Green has also achieved early grid synchronisation for its 92.15 MWp hybrid renewable energy project, which combines both wind and solar power generation.
The hybrid project includes:
-
16.95 MW wind capacity
-
75.2 MWp solar capacity
The project reached grid synchronisation ahead of its scheduled commercial operation date of July 2026, demonstrating the company’s strong execution capabilities in complex renewable energy projects.
Large-Scale Hybrid and Solar Projects
In October 2024, KPI Green executed long-term power purchase agreements with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited for a combined renewable capacity of 620 MW / 917 MWp.
The agreements include:
250 MW / 275 MWp Solar IPP Project
The company has already commissioned 48.4 MW / 69.41 MWp capacity in phases, while the remaining capacity is currently under construction. The full project is expected to be completed by October 2026.
370 MW / 642 MWp Hybrid IPP Project
This large hybrid renewable project is currently under active development, with completion targeted within the same October 2026 timeline.
Entry Into Battery Energy Storage Systems
In a significant step toward strengthening renewable energy integration, KPI Green has also entered the utility-scale energy storage segment.
Its subsidiary Sun Drops Energia Limited has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited for a 445 MW / 890 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.
The battery storage project will help improve grid stability, energy management, and renewable integration, addressing one of the key challenges in large-scale renewable power deployment.
KP Group’s Expanding Renewable Energy Vision
KPI Green Energy operates under the KP Group, a renewable energy-focused conglomerate established in 1994 by Faruk G. Patel.
Over the past three decades, the group has developed projects across:
-
Solar power
-
Wind energy
-
Hybrid renewable energy
-
Battery Energy Storage Systems
-
Green hydrogen initiatives
The group has positioned itself as a key contributor to India’s clean energy transition by developing large-scale renewable energy infrastructure and supporting industries seeking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Strengthening India’s Renewable Energy Growth
India’s renewable energy sector has witnessed rapid growth in recent years as the country works toward its ambitious clean energy targets.
With large-scale solar parks, hybrid projects, and energy storage solutions, companies like KPI Green are playing an important role in expanding renewable capacity while supporting grid stability and energy security.
The latest capacity addition further strengthens KPI Green’s position among India’s emerging Independent Power Producers in the renewable energy sector.
