Singrauli: Ashutosh Dwivedi, Director (Technical) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Nigahi coal mine on Thursday to review mining operations, coal dispatch systems, safety standards, and infrastructure related to fuel management.

The visit focused on strengthening operational efficiency and ensuring adherence to safety practices while maintaining production targets at one of the company’s key mining projects.

Inspection of Silo Operations and Coal Handling Systems

During the inspection, Dwivedi reviewed Phase-2 Silo-2 operations, including the rake loading system, coal handling facilities, and the coal quality laboratory. He also examined the East and West Receiving Pits of the new Coal Handling Plant (CHP) to assess coal quality monitoring and operational processes.

Officials present during the inspection discussed measures to improve coal quality management and ensure systematic mining practices across the project.

Dwivedi also visited Coal Stockyard-40 and inspected the west receiving pit of the older Silo-1 facility, where he reviewed coal dispatch systems, loading operations, and transportation arrangements linked to coal supply contracts.

He emphasized the need to streamline coal feeding into silos and maintain efficient dispatch operations to support uninterrupted supply.

Review of Mining Faces and Machinery Operations

As part of the field visit, Dwivedi inspected mining activities at both the East and West surface miner faces at the Nigahi project.

Through interactions with field supervisors and operational teams, he reviewed several aspects of mining operations, including:

  • Safety management practices

  • Production performance

  • Machinery utilization and operational efficiency

  • Workplace arrangements and workforce deployment

He stressed that mining operations must remain safe, efficient, and aligned with production targets while ensuring strict compliance with safety protocols.

Focus on Worker Safety and Productivity

During the visit, Dwivedi also interacted directly with workers and supervisory staff to understand operational challenges on the ground.

He encouraged teams to maintain high standards of workplace safety, productivity, and discipline, highlighting that safe mining practices remain a top priority for the company.

Senior Officials Accompany Inspection

The inspection was attended by several senior officials from the Nigahi area, including the Area General Manager, Project Officer, TS to Director (Technical/Operations), and other project heads, who participated in discussions related to operational improvements and safety management.

Strategic Importance of Nigahi Project

The Nigahi mine is one of the key operational projects of Northern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, which plays an important role in supplying coal to thermal power plants across the country.

Regular inspections by senior management are aimed at ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining safety standards, and strengthening coal production and dispatch systems to meet national energy demand.
