The initiative, which falls under the government’s flagship AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) scheme, aims to make quality medicines readily available at deeply discounted prices, officials confirmed.
The MoU marks a critical step towards improving the health outcomes and strengthening the overall wellbeing of the community, which has long faced challenges with the high cost of life-saving drugs.
The planned pharmacies, to be operated by HLL, will offer a wide array of generic and branded medicines, including those for critical illnesses, implants, and surgical consumables, often at an average discount of up to 50% on the Maximum Retail Price (MRP).
Sources within MCL indicated that this move is a key component of the company’s reinforced CSR strategy. It ensures that the benefits of the mining industry are directly channelled into the social sector, making essential healthcare a reality for all.
"The collaborative effort with HLL Lifecare is a testament to our commitment to the wellbeing of our workforce and neighbours," an MCL spokesperson told The Times of India. "By making quality medicines affordable, we are directly contributing to the nation's goal of accessible and reliable healthcare for everyone."
The rollout of the AMRIT stores across MCL sites is expected to begin in the coming months, immediately reducing the financial burden on families for chronic and critical medical needs.
