Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes on Police Commemoration Day

On the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, October 21, 2025, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh laid a wreath at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi, honouring the supreme sacrifice of police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty. The day marks the valour of 10 police officers who were killed in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.
During his address, the Raksha Mantri paid heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes and expressed deep gratitude to the police and paramilitary forces for their unwavering dedication to the nation. He highlighted the critical roles played by both the armed forces and police, describing them as twin pillars of national security. “While the military protects our borders and territorial integrity, the police ensure internal stability and safeguard the social fabric. Though their platforms differ, their mission is united – to protect the nation,” he said.
Looking ahead to the goal of a developed India by 2047, Shri Rajnath Singh emphasized the growing importance of balancing both external and internal security. He noted the emergence of new threats, including organised crime, terrorism, and ideological conflicts, which aim to destabilize society and erode public trust. “Today, crime is more complex, often invisible, and strategically designed to disrupt the nation’s peace,” he cautioned.

He reiterated the Government’s firm commitment to national security under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted the steps taken to bolster police capabilities, including the establishment of the National Police Memorial in 2018 and the provision of modern equipment such as surveillance systems, drones, forensic labs, and digital policing tools. “We have also ensured that states receive sufficient resources for the modernisation of their police forces,” he added, calling for improved coordination and integration among security agencies for optimal use of these resources.
