Indian Navy Signs Contract with Shoft Shipyard for 04 Self-Propelled Fuel Barges

New Delhi, March 3, 2026: In a significant boost to domestic shipbuilding, the Indian Navy has concluded a contract with M/s Shoft Shipyard Private Limited, Thane, an MSME shipyard, for the construction of 04 x 500T Self Propelled Fuel Barges.

The contract was signed on March 2, 2026, reinforcing the government's commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Strategic Importance

These fuel barges are the proud flag bearers of the Government of India's "Make in India" and "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives. They will be built under the Classification Rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) , ensuring highest standards of quality and safety.

Primary Role

The primary role of these barges will be:

• Replenishment of fuel to Indian Naval ships and submarines
