Bondada Engineering Bags Major 400 MWh Battery Storage Project in Tamil Nadu

The project will be executed under the build-own-operate (BOO) model, with Bondada Group emerging as the successful bidder through a competitive tendering process conducted by TNGECL.

New Delhi, June 24, 2025: Bondada Engineering Limited has secured LOA from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) for setting up of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The project will deploy standalone grid-scale BESS facilities with a total capacity of 400 MWh at key locations — Vellalaviduthi and Thennampatty in Tamil Nadu State.

Meanwhile, this is highest storage capacity order in the history of the Company in BESS business line marking a significant step towards creating bigger battery energy storage systems as a part of Company’s vision to reach 10GW capacity in green space by 2030, according to the exchange filing stated.

The initiative is aimed at boosting grid stability, integrating renewable energy, and managing peak power demand accelerating Tamil Nadu’s clean energy transition.

The project will be executed under the build-own-operate (BOO) model, with Bondada Group emerging as the successful bidder through a competitive tendering process conducted by TNGECL. “This project marks a key milestone for Bondada Group in the energy storage segment and reflects our strong commitment to advancing India’s clean energy ecosystem”.

The initiative aligns with India’s National Framework for Energy Storage Systems (NFESS), 2023, and Tamil Nadu’s ambitious goal of achieving 50% renewable energy by 2030. The system is expected to integrate with the state grid by 2027, contributing to India’s 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target.

The Project includes setting up of 400 MWh (200MW x 2 hrs) Battery Energy Storage Systems in Tamil Nadu with complete two cycle charging/discharging for “on demand” usage in “BOO” model under Tariff-based Competitive Bidding under the state component of Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support at Vellaviduthi SS, and 400/230-110 KV Thennampatti SS, Tamil Nadu.

The Broad consideration for this order shall be Rs. 8.36 crore.
