Amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and surging global oil prices, Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, has urged India to fast-track domestic oil and gas production to ensure long-term energy security.
In a recent social media post, Mr Agarwal highlighted that India currently imports nearly 90% of its crude oil requirements, with approximately 40% sourced from Middle Eastern countries. “Uncertainty and conflict in the Middle East is a sure trigger for global oil prices. For India, this becomes a challenge,” he noted.

Mr Agarwal called for leveraging India’s abundant hydrocarbon reserves and investor-friendly policy environment to accelerate exploration and production. “We have tremendous reserves. We have best-in-the-world policies. Government has done a lot of work,” he wrote, adding that greater adoption of self-certification mechanisms for project clearances could be a game-changer for speedier execution.
