Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility in Hyderabad, marking a major boost to India’s aviation and aerospace capabilities. Speaking at the event, he highlighted that India is among the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets and is emerging as a preferred destination for global investment through reforms and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes.
The Prime Minister said the new SAESI facility will significantly strengthen India’s goal of becoming a global hub for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services. He emphasized that investors in India are regarded as “co-creators” and strategic partners in building a Viksit Bharat.
A Major Milestone for India’s Aviation Sector
SAESI is Safran’s dedicated MRO facility for LEAP engines, which power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This marks the first time a global engine OEM has set up an aircraft engine MRO operation in India. Developed at an investment of over Rs 1,300 crore inside the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park SEZ, the facility spans 45,000 sq. meters and is designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines per year.
Once fully operational by 2035, the centre will employ over 1,000 highly skilled Indian engineers and technicians.
Boost for Defence Aviation
Alongside the inauguration, the foundation stone was laid for the M88 Military Engine MRO facility, which will support the Indian Air Force and Navy. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu were also present. The MRO is expected to contribute significantly to defence self-reliance.
