Govt CPSE ALIMCO to advance for production and services under Divyang Sahara Yojana
In a strong-ever boosting initiative for inclusive growth of Viksit Bharat and supporting the handicapped and disabled senior citizens, the government has appointed a CPSE ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India) to play a crucial role in expanding accessibility for the high-quality assistive technologies and services across the country.
Government-owned ALIMCO comes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and through newly proposed Divyang Sahara Yojana it will ramp up the production of high-quality assistive devices, with research and development for the integrated advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, product designing and services.
The portfolio of assistive products under the proposed Divyang Sahara Yojana will consist of mobility aids, low-vision and low-hearing devices, e-Braille readers, smart hearing instruments and cognitive-assistive solutions, among others, tailored to diverse functional needs.
Through the inclusion and integration of ALIMCO as a catalyst for innovation and quality in assistive technology, the govt budget to reduce import dependence, spur domestic manufacturing and create new opportunities for Indian startups and MSMEs in this critical social sector.
ALIMCO currently operates 100 nos. of PMDVKs across the country. These accessible centres will enable beneficiaries to see, try and obtain appropriate devices with dignity, informed choice and professional counselling, thereby bridging the last-mile gap between cutting-edge technology and users.
