RVNL Bags ₹967.93 Crore East Coast Railway Contract for Major Bridge Construction Project
New Delhi, June 17, 2026: State-owned infrastructure major Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from East Coast Railway for a major railway infrastructure project valued at ₹967.93 crore.
The contract involves the construction of four important steel girder bridges under the third and fourth line expansion between Nergundi-Barang and Khurda Road-Vizianagaram on the Bhadrak-Vizianagaram section.
Scope of the Project
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract includes the construction of key bridges over major rivers in Odisha:

Bridge No. 539 over the Birupa River

Bridge No. 544 over the Mahanadi River

Bridge No. 553 over the Kathjori River

Bridge No. 557 over the Kuakhai River
These bridges will be built using Open Web Steel Girder technology, aimed at enhancing capacity and operational efficiency on one of the busiest railway corridors.
Project Value and Timeline
According to the company's regulatory filing, the total contract value stands at:
₹967,92,66,661.70 (including 18% GST)
The project is scheduled to be completed within 1,095 days, or approximately three years.
Strategic Importance
The Bhadrak-Vizianagaram section is a vital route for passenger and freight movement on the East Coast Railway network. The addition of third and fourth lines is expected to decongest traffic and improve connectivity across eastern India.
The new bridges over the Mahanadi, Birupa, Kathjori and Kuakhai rivers are considered critical components of the capacity enhancement programme.
No Related Party Interest
RVNL clarified that the contract has been awarded by a domestic entity and does not involve any related-party transactions. The company and its promoter group have no interest in the entity awarding the project.
