GMDC Receives Environmental Clearance for Lakhpat–Punrajpur Lignite & Limestone Mine in Kutch
Ahmedabad, February 27, 2026: Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (GMDC), a Government of Gujarat enterprise and one of India’s leading lignite producers, has received Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for its Lakhpat–Punrajpur Lignite and Limestone Mine in Kutch, Gujarat.
The clearance authorizes a production capacity of 3.0 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of lignite and 29.81 MTPA of limestone, marking a key milestone in GMDC’s expansion strategy. This approval enhances long-term production visibility, strengthens the company’s mineral resource base, and reinforces GMDC’s strategic role in Gujarat’s energy and industrial mineral sectors.
The integrated development of lignite and limestone resources is expected to support core sectors, including energy generation, cement, and other mineral-based industries, ensuring supply stability and contributing to regional industrial growth.
