IndianOil Flags Off India’s First-Ever LNG Export to Nepal, Strengthening Regional Energy Security
India has achieved another historic milestone in its clean energy journey, as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil) commenced the country’s first-ever export of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Nepal, marking a transformative step in advancing regional energy cooperation and sustainable growth.

This landmark operation reflects India’s continued commitment to strengthening neighbourhood partnerships and supporting regional energy security. The development comes as a moment of pride and progress, showcasing India’s growing leadership in cleaner and reliable energy solutions.
The inaugural LNG consignment was dispatched from IndianOil’s Dhamra LNG Terminal, operationalising the agreement signed with Yogya Holdings Pvt. Ltd. (YHPL) during India Energy Week 2025. The delivery represents a significant leap forward in cross-border clean energy trade.
To make this possible, IndianOil has set up cryogenic storage and regasification facilities at Simara, Nepal, enabling the foundation of Nepal’s industrial LNG ecosystem and promoting broader adoption of cleaner fuels in the region.
The LNG was transported via cryogenic road tankers through the Raxaul border and reached YHPL’s Simara facility on 19 November 2025, successfully marking the commencement of long-term LNG cooperation between the two nations.
This first-of-its-kind export underscores India’s vision of building a cleaner, integrated, and energy-secure South Asia while supporting Nepal’s transition to sustainable industrial energy solutions.
