NEW DELHI: State-owned power major NHPC Limited has announced the commercial commissioning (CoD) of Unit-3 (250 MW) of its flagship Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (2000 MW), located on the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border.
The company declared that commercial operations for Unit-3 have commenced from 00:00 hours on February 1, 2026, in compliance with Regulation 30 of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
Subansiri Lower Project: Current Status
With this development:

Two units (Unit-2 and Unit-3), each of 250 MW, are now commercially operational

NHPC stated that the update follows multiple earlier disclosures made between October 2023 and December 2025, reflecting steady progress in the commissioning of one of India’s largest hydroelectric projects.
Strategic Importance
The Subansiri Lower HE Project is a strategic hydropower asset aimed at strengthening power supply in the North-Eastern region while supporting India’s renewable and clean energy goals. Once fully operational, the project will play a key role in grid stability and peak power management.
