Football—the heartbeat of the Bodoland and North East—found new champions this year as NTPC Football Club sponsored by NTPC Bongaigaon under its CSR initiative, lifted the Champion Trophy of the A Division Inter Club Football League 2025, organized by the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA).

Formed in 2014 by football enthusiasts among NTPC Bongaigaon employees, NTPC FC has evolved from a small in-house initiative into a vibrant platform nurturing young players from rural backgrounds across Salakati, Kokrajhar, and adjoining areas. In a region where football is more than a sport—it’s a shared passion—NTPC has been playing a pivotal role in promoting and supporting local football culture through its CSR and Sports Council-led initiatives.

This year’s league, which began on 13th June 2025 and concluded recently, saw NTPC FC remain unbeaten throughout the season, playing 9 matches with 7 wins and 2 draws, accumulating 23 points—a clear lead over the second-placed team—and earning promotion to the Super Division League.

Two emerging stars, Dinti Hazowary and Dhananjay Brahma, were the highest scorers with 8 goals each, reflecting the growing talent pool nurtured through NTPC’s support and mentoring ecosystem.

Recognizing the need for structured training, the NTPC Bongaigaon Sports Council, in coordination with KDSA, arranged for a dedicated coach to guide and strengthen the team. This collaboration has helped blend professional coaching with the raw energy of rural youth, resulting in a disciplined, high-performing squad.

Marking a proud moment for the NTPC family, the Champion Trophy was handed over to Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, who praised the team’s commitment, discipline, and inspiring journey from grassroots to glory. Present on the occasion were Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, representatives of the NTPC Sports Council, and Union and Association representatives of the station, who together congratulated the players for bringing laurels to NTPC and the local community.
