NTPC & MAHAGENCO Acquire 1,350 MW Sinnar Thermal Plant, Capacity Hits 88 GW
New Delhi, 25 Feb 2026: NTPC Limited, in consortium with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO), has successfully completed the acquisition of Sinnar Thermal Power Limited (STPL) on 24th February 2026.
STPL, which was under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) as per the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) 2016, owns a coal-based thermal power plant with 5×270 MW units, totaling 1,350 MW, located at Sinnar, Nashik, Maharashtra.
This acquisition was executed following the NCLT-approved Resolution Plan and significantly strengthens NTPC’s generation portfolio. With this addition, the NTPC Group’s total installed capacity now stands at 88,132 MW, with a commercial capacity of 87,052 MW, reinforcing its position as India’s largest power producer.
The completion of STPL’s acquisition is expected to enhance NTPC’s operational efficiency and contribute to India’s energy security, aligning with the group’s vision of delivering reliable and sustainable power.
