ONGC Plan A and B failed to control gas leak in Rudrasagar Field, Next Plan executed with US Experts
After this failed attempt, the International Well Control Agency reached on the site yesterday and took the preliminary assessment of the situation.

Assam, June 21, 2025: ONGC team have seen a very tough time from past 10 days, making strong efforts to control the situation that happened in Rudrasagar Field-Well RDS#147A on June 12, 2025. The PSU took advanced preparatory operations with its two plans but failed to cope up with the situation and cant stop the gas blowout.
After this failed attempt, the International Well Control Agency reached on the site yesterday and took the preliminary assessment of the situation. With this next phase of managing the safety, the alternative road ramp has been constructed to ensure the safe and uninterrupted access to the well.
ONGC in its release states that, High-pressure water pumping is being carried out continuously in the range of 3000-3500 PSI with a high discharge rate of around 19-20 barrels per minute. Today, (on June 20th) the total volume pumped is ~2200 barrels (BBLS), with one intermittent junk shot, forming a key component of the ongoing well control strategy.

Simultaneously, site levelling is in full swing, enabling smooth access and site readiness for the next phase of operations.
According to the Assam CM Himanta Biswa's statement released on Friday mentioned that ONGC will permanently cap its leaking crude oil well in Sivasagar district after two emergency efforts failed.
The capping starts today and is carried out in consultation with US experts Kenneth Wright, Robert Melancon, and William McDonald.
