POWERGRID Wins WR–ER Inter-Regional Transmission Project Under TBCB; Receives LoI for Major Grid Expansion
New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mechanism for the development of the Inter-State Transmission System project titled “WR–ER Inter-Regional Network Expansion Scheme Part-A”.
The company has received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on 16 June 2026, marking a key milestone in the expansion of India’s national power transmission infrastructure.
The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis and is aimed at strengthening inter-regional power transfer capacity between Western and Eastern regions of the country.
Project Scope and Coverage
The transmission scheme includes:

Establishment of two new 765/400 kV substations in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh

Extension of existing substations in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal

Construction of 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines

Coverage across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal
The project is designed to improve grid reliability, enhance inter-state power flow, and support growing electricity demand across regions.
