New Delhi, 22 May 2026: Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has emerged as the Lowest Bidder (L1) for a major railway electrification project awarded by West Central Railway.

The project involves the design, modification, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of 132kV/55kV Scott-connected Traction Sub Stations and switching posts with Auto Transformer (AT) systems between the Itarsi and Shridham section of the Jabalpur Division.

The contract is part of the upgradation of the electric traction system from 1x25kV to 2x25kV traction systems aimed at supporting a 3000 MT loading target for West Central Railway.

Project Value and Timeline

The total cost of the project stands at approximately ₹244.32 crore, inclusive of applicable taxes. The execution timeline for the project is 18 months.

The contract falls under the normal course of business for RVNL and will be executed under general contract conditions applicable to domestic infrastructure projects.

Strengthening Railway Infrastructure

The project is expected to significantly improve railway electrification efficiency and freight handling capabilities in the region. Upgrading the traction system to 2x25kV technology will help Indian Railways enhance operational efficiency, support higher freight movement, and improve energy distribution across the network.

RVNL continues to play a major role in India’s railway modernization and infrastructure expansion initiatives, executing large-scale projects across electrification, metro rail, bridges, stations, and track development.
