Secretary, Ministry of Power Inaugurates Control Room at NHPC 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project
Union Power Secretary Shri Pankaj Agarwal inaugurated the state-of-the-art Power House Control Room at NHPC's 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project on July 20, 2025, a critical step towards commissioning India's largest hydroelectric project.

SUBANSIRI, ARUNACHAL PRADESH – July 21, 2025 – A significant stride towards the commissioning of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) was made on July 20th with the inauguration of its Power House Control Room by Shri Pankaj Agarwal (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. The cutting-edge facility, designed to be one of the most advanced and state-of-the-art control centers in the country, marks a crucial milestone for India's largest hydroelectric initiative.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of a distinguished gathering, including Shri R.P. Goyal, Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC, and Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC. The Executive Director & Head of Project (HOP) of SLHEP, along with other senior officials from NHPC and the Ministry of Power, were also in attendance.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Pankaj Agarwal extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire NHPC team at Subansiri Lower HEP, led by the ED & HOP, and the executing agency, M/s Patel Engg. He lauded their "commendable efforts" in the construction of this highly sophisticated Power House Control Room, emphasizing its pivotal role in the efficient and reliable operation of the mega project.
The 2000 MW Subansiri Lower HE Project, a run-of-the-river scheme on the Subansiri River, is a monumental undertaking aimed at significantly boosting India's clean energy capacity. The newly inaugurated control room is equipped with advanced technology and systems for seamless monitoring and control of the project's eight 250 MW Francis turbines, along with all associated critical infrastructure. This facility is expected to ensure optimal power generation and efficient management of the entire hydroelectric complex.

With the completion of key components like the dam reaching its top level, and the successful installation of spillway radial gates, the project is rapidly moving towards its commissioning phase. The Subansiri Lower HE Project is poised to deliver approximately 7,500 million kilowatt-hours of power annually, playing a vital role in meeting the growing energy demands of the nation and contributing significantly to India's renewable energy targets.
The inauguration of the Power House Control Room underscores the dedication and concerted efforts of all stakeholders towards bringing this strategically important national project to fruition.
