SJVN Achieves COD of 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam

Shimla, February 5, 2026: SJVN Limited, a Navratna CPSE and joint venture of the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh, has successfully achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam. The project has been executed through SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), the company’s wholly-owned renewable energy subsidiary.

The Dhubri Solar Power Project, the first large-scale solar project in Assam and SJVN’s first operational project in the North Eastern Region, spans 330 acres of lease-based land in Village Khudigaon Pt. II, District Dhubri. Developed at a project cost of Rs. 367.44 crore, it is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year, and approximately 3,230 million units cumulatively over 25 years. The electricity will be supplied to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at a maximum usage charge of Rs. 3.92 per unit, ensuring affordable and clean power supply.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi on March 4, 2024, from Adilabad, Telangana. The project is a significant step towards achieving the Government of India’s target of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Beyond strengthening India’s clean energy portfolio, the Dhubri project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1,58,270 tonnes, generate multiple direct and indirect employment opportunities, and provide a boost to the local economy.

Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN, described the achievement as a key milestone in the company’s renewable energy journey and emphasized SJVN’s commitment to supporting India’s climate action goals and promoting green jobs.
