SJVN Hits Major Milestone: 1 Billion Units Generated at 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project
Shimla, 19 March 2026: SJVN Limited, a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, has achieved a major milestone by generating 1 Billion Units (BU) of electricity from its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project on March 20, 2026.
The project, located in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, is implemented through SJVN’s wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), under the CPSU Scheme – Phase II, Tranche III of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by the Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on January 3, 2023, in Jaipur. The project reached its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on 24 December 2025, reinforcing SJVN’s commitment to accelerating India’s renewable energy growth.
The Bikaner Solar Power Project is expected to generate around 2,454.55 million units (MU) of electricity in its first year, and approximately 56 billion units over 25 years, reducing carbon emissions by 2.78 million tonnes over its operational life. The tariff has been competitively set at ₹2.57 per unit, supplying affordable green power to Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.
