Haridwar, March 7, 2026 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of public welfare projects worth over ₹1,132 crore in Haridwar, marking four years of the government led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Uttarakhand.

Speaking at the event, Shah described the past nine years of his party’s governance in the state as a “golden period of development”, crediting the leadership of Narendra Modi for accelerating infrastructure and welfare initiatives across the region.

Transparent Jobs for Youth

During the event, Shah highlighted the recruitment of 1,900 police constables, stating that the appointments were made transparently without the need for “kharchi” (money) or “parchi” (recommendation). He said this reflects the government’s commitment to clean governance and fair recruitment practices.

Citizenship Under CAA

The Home Minister also announced that 162 individuals who migrated from Pakistan and Afghanistan have been granted Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act. He reaffirmed the government’s stance that refugees facing religious persecution in neighbouring countries deserve protection and citizenship in India.

Development and Infrastructure Push

Shah outlined several major infrastructure investments in the state, including:

  • ₹12,000 crore for the Char Dham Mahamarg Project

  • ₹8,000 crore for the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor

  • ₹5,000 crore for national highway construction in the state

  • ₹2,400 crore under the Parvatmala ropeway development programme

He also highlighted railway expansion projects worth ₹26,000 crore and modernization initiatives at several stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Focus on Governance and Demographic Policies

Shah praised Uttarakhand for becoming the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code, stating that it would help maintain legal equality and address demographic concerns. He also said that a high-power demography mission announced by the central government will soon begin its work.

Welfare Schemes and Economic Growth

The Home Minister noted improvements in economic indicators and welfare coverage in Uttarakhand, including:

  • Growth in the state’s GSDP and per capita income

  • Benefits to over 10 lakh farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi

  • 14 lakh households receiving tap water under Jal Jeevan Mission

  • Free healthcare for 62 lakh people under Ayushman Bharat

  • Free food grains for 60 lakh beneficiaries through Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

Shah said these initiatives demonstrate the government’s focus on inclusive development, infrastructure expansion, and welfare delivery in the Himalayan state.
