Unlike conventional methods, the demonstration plant utilizes produced water (effluent from oil production) as a feedstock to generate Green Hydrogen, completely eliminating the need for freshwater. The plant operates on less than 1 kWh of energy per kg of hydrogen, powered entirely by solar energy, and produces hydrogen at an extremely cost-effective rate of ~2 USD per kg. In addition to energy generation, it also treats the effluent water by significantly reducing Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and oil content, demonstrating the dual benefit of water remediation and clean energy production.
