GAIL Acquires 49% Stake in Leafiniti Bioenergy
Mumbai, March 18, 2026: GAIL (India) Limited has acquired a 49% equity stake in Leafiniti Bioenergy Private Limited (LBPL), a Karnataka-based biofuel company, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) sector.
LBPL operates a 10.2 TPD CBG plant in Village-Maigur, Taluka-Jamkhandi, Bagalkot District, Karnataka, and recorded a turnover of ₹28.42 Crore in FY 2024-25. The acquisition, completed through cash consideration amounting to ₹13.54 Crore, will enable GAIL to participate in future CBG projects and expand its renewable energy portfolio in India.
“This acquisition aligns with GAIL’s sustainability goals and enhances our footprint in the renewable biofuel segment,” said Deepak Asija, Company Secretary of GAIL.
The transaction was completed following necessary approvals from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MOPNG) and DIPAM, ensuring regulatory compliance. With this strategic equity participation, GAIL aims to support India’s transition to cleaner fuels and accelerate the adoption of bioenergy solutions nationwide.
