Renowned Economist Poonam Gupta to join as Deputy Governor, RBI

Renowned economist Poonam Gupta has been appointed by the union government as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year tenure.

Amid the next week’s monetary policy meet, her presence would assume significance exposure to monetary policy research and fiscal policies.

Ms Poonam Gupta will succeed Michael Patra who was in-charge of the monetary policy department and his tenure came to an end on January 14.

She is currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India's largest economic policy think tank, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and the convenor of the advisory council to the 16th Finance Commission.
